Knox Whiskey Works

Knox Whiskey Works is a small batch, craft distillery based in downtown Knoxville. They use local products from local farmers to create some amazing spirits, such as the Jackson Ave Gin, TN Valley Vodka, Old City Heirloom Corn Whiskey, and the Cold City Old Brew Coffee Liqueur – which may be the best coffee liqueur we’ve ever tasted.

They have a small tasting room at the front entrance with a standing bar where you can order from the cocktail list or you can do the $5 tasting which gets you a taste of four spirits. Better yet, for $10 you can tour the distillery (onsite) and get educated on the distillery process, plus you get four tasting samples!  (Tours Tues-Sun and last 30-45 minutes; reservations are recommended and can be booked online.)

We can highly recommend a visit to Knox Whiskey Works. They’re friendly and eager to talk and answer questions. Their Jackson Ave Gin is worth the stop alone – it’s a gin that has impressed even non gin drinkers due to its balanced flavor with earthy, herbal and floral notes.

Can’t make it to the distillery? They have a product finder on their website, both for liquor stores and bars/restaurants. Be sure to ask your bartender if they carry Knox Whiskey Works spirits and try them in your favorite cocktails.

They’re also turning out some new and unexpected spirits. Their current seasonal lineup includes:

Marble City Pink Gin – their Jackson Ave Gin aged in Caberrnet barrels from Napa Valley

Flue de Vie Floral Liqueur – rose buds, lavender, chrysanthemum, red clover tops, hibiscus, and sweetened with locally sourced honey

Urban Wilderness Herbal Liqueur – with nine botanicals including wormwood, hyssop and lemon balm then barrel-aged in a used chardonnay barrel
